Margot Guralnick is a design writer and editor at Remodelista. She's also an accidental artist: for more than a decade, Margot has been making art out of leaves and other natural wonders found on dog walks. A lifelong collector, Margot began by gathering greenery and assembling it on found backdrops ranging from manhole covers to her kitchen table. This evolved into a daily practice she calls Dog Walk Diary (@dogwalkdiarynyc). Instagram provided her with a place to post her work and a ready audience of fellow leaf lovers. Margot's creations are ephemeral: she documents them in photographs then casts them to the wind. And, in recent years, turns favorites into large-format prints, which have been shown in galleries and shops. "My art is a daily meditation on-and a collaboration with-the plant life growing in my neighborhood in the Bronx and wherever my travels take me," says Margot. "What began as a collector's impulse to look for treasure on dog walks has led to a daily practice and an unexpected second career." |
