Douglas Hoerr is the co-founder of the national landscape architecture firm Hoerr Schaudt. Founded in 2008 and with offices in Chicago, Los Angeles, Kansas City, MO, and Richmond, VA, the firm is known for its horticentric design approach to residential, commercial, and civic projects. Hoerr Schaudt has shaped the landscape architecture profession at large. Doug's groundbreaking design along Chicago's Michigan Avenue became a defining example of how horticulture can bring wonder to the urban experience, and the firm continues to make an impact on the urban experience with the recent completion of a new mixed-use space in Arlington, a destination playscape in Wichita, and the master plan for the expansion of the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
In 2020, Doug planned the firm's next chapter by appointing four new partners to the leadership team, and in 2027, the firm will publish its second book. In the past five years alone, Doug and the team have earned more than two dozen major honors, including the 2026 ICAA Arthur Ross Awards, the Garden Club of America's 2026 Elvira Broome Doolan Medal for original and transformational urban landscape design, several ASLA awards, the 2026 and 2023 Palladio Awards, ICAA Bulfinch Awards, Interior Design's Best of Year, and LUXE RED Awards, among others.
