Instructor: Fiona Strickland

Fiona Strickland
Fiona Strickland is an internationally renowned botanical artist and tutor. Her signature approach displays a passion for intense colour and extraordinary attention to detail.

Fiona seeks to engage and surprise her viewers, often depicting flowers from an unusual viewpoint or at turning points in their life cycle. Her striking and dramatic works challenge perceptions of botanic art and while botanically accurate the paintings move beyond pure scientific representation, because they are inspired by an emotive and artistic response, making each work a portrait that vividly captures the spirit of the subject.

In addition to continuing this age-old tradition, Fiona also seeks to challenge and inspire through her unrivalled technical virtuosity in the application of multiple layers of transparent watercolour. The viewer is persuaded to discover a hitherto unnoticed aspect of a plant; be it a view from an unusual angle, a focus on an otherwise overlooked detail, or its' beauty revealed at a vital moment.

Represented by the Jonathan Cooper Gallery, London, she is an R.H.S. Gold Medallist, member and 'Best in Show' recipient of the American Society of Botanical Artists, and multi award recipient of the Society of Botanical Artists, she has work in the collections of Dr. Shirley Sherwood O.B.E., the R.H.S Lindley Library and the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation as well as numerous private collections in the UK, Europe, USA, and Australia.
