Emily Sessa
Dr. Emily Sessa is the Patricia K. Holmgren Director of the William and Lynda Steere Herbarium at the New York Botanical Garden. Originally from Putnam County, New York, Dr. Sessa received her B.A. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Cornell University and Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

She was a professor of Plant Systematics at the University of Florida for nine years before returning home to join the Science team at NYBG. Her research interests and expertise are in plant ecology and evolution broadly, and specifically the relationships and natural history of ferns and lycophytes.
