Lauren Stimson is a landscape architect, Principal and Partner at STIMSON; a design studio comprised of landscape architects, planners and horticulturalists based in New England. She studied classical theater and geology at Bates College where she was a Benjamin E. Mays Scholar, and received a Masters in Landscape Architecture and a Masters in Regional Planning from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Her work is deeply informed by Charbrook, her family home and farm, that has become the field laboratory for STIMSON. Rural life and related interests in the arts, crafts, foraging and plants have expanded the way she thinks about her design practice. Much of her work explores forgotten histories, wildness, spontaneity, and emotion.
She has been practicing landscape architecture for almost two decades, and her projects range in scale from intimate gardens to public parks and museums, to institutional campuses. In 2021, her studio was recognized with the national Landscape Architecture Firm Award, for outstanding achievement within the profession of landscape architecture. She is the 2023/24 Gilmore D. Clarke and Michael Rapuano/Kate Lancaster Brewster Rome Prize Fellow and spent the spring of 2024 at the American Academy in Rome.
