Winter Wildlife Ecology in Cities

In winter, New York City becomes a busy resort for scoters, eiders, geese, grebes, loons, owls, songbirds, and even seals that visit to wait out colder weather to the north. Explore the various seasonal behaviors of these animals-from their spectacular migrations to the ingenious strategies they use to seek out food as well as the dramatic change in habits and appearances to survive these colder months. This class includes a field trip to Pelham Bay Park to observe local wildfire within its forested rocky coastlines.

Please bring binoculars (8x42 or 10x42 standard birding binoculars preferred).
