Instructor:	Fred Ellman Fred Ellman Fred Ellman Fred Ellman is a horticultural therapy instructor and meditation teacher. He has a certificate in Horticultural Therapy from the New York Botanic Gardens and a certificate in Contemplative Buddhist Psychotherapy from the Nalanda Institute in Manhattan. His background includes, working as an architect, children's garden designer at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, exhibition design for children's museums throughout North America, and for 30 years as partner in a family toy inventing business. He currently works in multiple care-communities in the tri-state area. His work focuses primarily on seniors with dementia, both over zoom and in person using horticultural therapy and meditation experiences/activities/modalities. He enjoys creating classes using the natural symbiotic partnership of horticulture activities and meditation. He blends Therapeutic Horticulture, whenever possible, with the Buddhist foundational tenets of Joy, Compassion, Loving Kindness, and Equanimity in connecting with seniors. His work is also greatly informed by the study of Montessori for Dementia, and he has developed activities and environments utilizing the power and simplicity of the Montessori approach.
