The Album of Plant Families: Book Talk with Wendy Hollender

Much like our own family, plant families share characteristics, often in the arrangement of their flowers, leaves, and stems. Acclaimed botanical artist Wendy Hollender depicts twenty-four plant families commonly encountered in the garden and in the wild in her newest book, The Album of Plant Families.

For each plant family, this book features a spectacular full-page rendering in colored pencil and watercolor alongside lively writings that help the reader visualize the sometimes-surprising connections between different plants—for example, the zinnia, dandelion, and romaine lettuce, are all members of the sunflower family, Asteraceae.

From her adventures in collecting each botanical subject near and far to her collaboration with distinguished guest essayists such as Michael Balick, Vice President for Botanical Science at NYBG, Marta McDowell, best-selling garden writer and Susan Pell, executive director of the US Botanic Garden—join Wendy as she shares her artistic process to creating this superb, poster-size collection of plant illustrations.

Copies of The Album of Plant Families will be available for purchase and signing.
