No land? No problem! Containers can bring added color, form, and texture to any space-deck, rooftop, terrace, front porch, or window sill. With the right combination of plants, containers provide visual impact, create a small garden, and add pleasure to your living area. Sun or shade, ornamental or edible, find out what kind of container garden is right for you. Please bring lunch.

Learn the basics for planting and maintaining a healthy outdoor container garden: materials and container styles, potting mixes, fertilization, and watering.

12:45-2:45 pm: Veggies and Herbs for Containers

Learn how to grow garden-fresh vegetables and herbs year-round. Discover which varieties do best in containers and how to care for them. Special attention is paid to those varieties that not only taste great but also look beautiful, including varieties that have interesting or unusual blooms and foliage.

3-5 PM: Designing with Containers

Learn a comprehensive approach to designing with containers, including how, when, where and why you should use a particular pot in one spot over another. Gain tips and tricks for great plant combinations in containers of all kinds and walk away with a container of plants you potted up!

Instructor:	Katharine Barrie Katharine Barrie Katharine Barrie Katharine Startup Barrie is a garden consultant and a graduate of NYBG's School of Professional Horticulture. She previously gardened at Chanticleer in Wayne, Pennsylvania and Iroki: the private estate of Judy and Michael Steinhardt in Mt. Kisco, New York. Chris Satch Chris Satch Chris Satch Christopher Satch is the former Director of Plant Science and Education at The Sill, a NYC-based plant company. He graduated from Rutgers University with a MS in Plant Biology and Pathology. Christopher also participates in Rutgers Alumni Growers and Exhibitors, an organization that showcases the horticultural prowess of Rutgers Alumni in flower shows across the tri-state area, including the Philadelphia Flower Show, the NJ Orchid Society Show, and the SEPOS Show. Richard Rosiello Richard Rosiello Richard Rosiello Richard Rosiello is the owner of Rosiello Designs, LLC, a designer at Meadowbrook Gardens, the President of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers, Past-President of APLD Connecticut, and alumni of NYBG's Landscape Design Certificate Program. Originally trained as a painter, he transitioned into a Landscape Designer. Shaping the land, working with stone and water, creating gardens and sculpting spaces represents for him a natural extension of his artist sensibilities in his current work for clients.
