Herbs are a perennial favorite for backyard, container, rooftop, and apartment gardeners. Medicinal, dye, ornamental, and culinary herbs offer benefits to you as a gardener and to your garden ecosystem. In this introductory course, learn how to set up a successful herb garden or improve your existing plantings, how to select the right seeds and plants for your site, and the basics of cultivation and care.

Instructor:	Annie Novak Annie Novak Annie Novak Annie Novak is Manager of the Edible Academy (nee: Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden) at the New York Botanical Garden; founder and director of Growing Chefs, field-to-fork food education program; and co-founderand farmer of Eagle Street Rooftop Farm in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, in partnership with Goode Green and Broadway Stages. Annie has worked with GrowNYC and Greenmarket, Slow Food USA, and Just Food advocating and growing urban agriculture. Her new book on rooftop agriculture, The Rooftop Growing Guide, by Ten Speed Press, was a New York Times Summer Recommendation from Dominique Browning. Among other publications,Annie's work in agriculture has been featured in New YorkMagazine, Edible Brooklyn, and the Martha Stewart Show; online at Grist, the Huffington Post, and on the CookingChannel. A passionate educator, Annie teaches locally and nationally, and has spoken at conferences around the country and internationally on the connections between people, food, and ecology, and the benefitsof urban agriculture.
