Style & Shoot: Whimsical Floral Wonderland

Spend an inspiring two days honing your floral design, photography and social media marketing skills! Each day, students will delve into a world of floral wonders and accompanying curiosities inspired by NYBG's Wonderland: Curious Nature exhibition. Floral designer & instructor Barbara Mele will show you how flowers represent the exhibition and can evoke its themes through different techniques. Photographer and educator Jamie Jamison will illuminate still-life vignettes and teach you how to photograph your floral work and a variety of props to best effect! Learn helpful tips and tricks to creating successful social content to promote your floral talents.

Materials Information:
Price includes a $150 materials fee for plant materials and hard goods. Please bring a florist knife, wire cutter, scissors, pruners, a camera, and a box or bag to carry home your work. Alternatively, a Floral Tool Kit is available for purchase through the Registration Office. Please email ContinuingEd@nybg.org to inquire.

Instructor:	Barbara Mele Barbara Mele Barbara Mele A native New Yorker, Barbara Mele has been a florist for 20+ years. She learned to love nature at a young age from her grandmother, who was a landscape architect and taught at Notre Dame University. Barbara calls her personal design style "Urban Garden," which often showcases garden varieties in sleek urban vases. Her work can be seen at Gatherings Floral Design. Jamie Jamison Jamie Jamison Jamie Jamison Jamie Jamison is a natural light and still-life photographer with a passion for flowers, vintage finds and handmade treasures. As a social media content manager and influencer (@alajamie), she connects with other floral enthusiasts and has inspired people throughout the world with her uplifting photos. Jamie provides Instagram coaching, photography and styling for businesses as well works as a brand partner with several national companies. Jamie is also a Communication Instructor at Youngstown State University and was awarded the 2019 Part-Time Excellence Award for teaching. Her work has appeared in Country Living, Somerset Life, Bella Grace Magazine, Somerset Digital Studio, Somerset Memories, Artful Blogging, Somerset Studio Gallery, Somerset Apprentice, and the Torpedo Factory Target Gallery. She resides in Youngstown, Ohio and Chautauqua, NY.
