Drawing Cacti in Carbon Dust

The medium of carbon dust has been a mainstay for natural science illustrators for almost a century. This drawing technique combines carbon pencil lines with carbon dust (or "washes") that are applied with brushes, resulting in rich, tonal renderings that exhibit both a wide range of values and precise detail. In this class, you'll learn about the history of carbon dust, and explore how it can be used to produce meticulous drawings of cacti. Prerequisite: Botanical Drawing II
