Biography: "I love to learn and to help others learn. To learn a new language is to learn new perspectives and new ways of thinking. It's one of the most exciting - and fun - things you can do." Duane Schmidt lived in Peru for 9 years and taught English to working professionals. He also taught all levels of academic Spanish for over 20 years at Hutchinson Community College (HCC) in Kansas. Duane managed HCC's Workplace Spanish program, offering occupation-specific courses such as Spanish for Law Enforcement, Spanish for EMS Personnel, and many others. Non-language courses taught for HCC included Leadership, Work Ethics, and Team Development.

Conversational Spanish I
Conversational Spanish I is for the true beginner or novice, with little or no Spanish language instruction. Students will learn the Spanish alphabet, basic grammar construction, and vocabulary, to help provide a foundation for conversational skills in practical situations. By the end of the class, students will be able to introduce themselves and talk about their family and weekly activities using ser, tener, estar, and other common verbs, as well as ask simple questions to discover information. A textbook is required for this class.
