Gardening in Pots and Planters

Learn how to grow a variety of plants in pots and planters for your patio, terrace, front porch or even windowsill that's both functional and gorgeous in any season. This course teaches you the basics of choosing and using materials like potting soil and plants, as well as easy maintenance skills needed to make your container planting a thriving success.

Course Objectives
After this course, you'll be able to:
  • Describe the key components required to grow a plant in a pot, including creating the ideal potting mix and setting up proper drainage.
  • Identify a diversity of plants that can be successfully grown in containers in a variety of climates.
  • Explain the role of containers in gardens, as well as the importance of container gardening as a subgenre of garden design.
  • Apply gardening principles to maintain the health of plants grown in containers.

Learn at your own pace in an online format. The pre-recorded course videos feature NYBG's plant professionals who will guide you through the material. Videos will include quizzes designed to deepen your understanding of the course content. You'll have access to all videos and quizzes for 60 days after the course start date, allowing you to complete the course at any time within that period.



Schedule: This online course is self-paced. Access to course content will begin on April 1. You'll continue to receive access to course videos and materials through Canvas for 60 days.
