The Genius of Trees: Book Talk with Harriet Rix

Trees cannot move, so we often assume that they are passive participants in the world. Join tree consultant and author Harriet Rix as she reveals fascinating aspects of trees; the ways they shape the abiotic elements of water and air, how they've evolved to use fire as a tool, and how they minutely manipulate the organisms which depend on them—modeling and remodeling plants and using animals (including humans) to move.

Illustrating her talk with extraordinary slides from research trips around the globe (including NYBG), Harriet will explore the ways that trees use biochemistry to create the conditions for their own survival and how our own use of trees can be optimized to make the world a greener place, as she shares insights from her first publication, The Genius of Trees: How They Mastered the Elements and Shaped the World.

Copies of The Genius of Trees will be available for purchase and signing.
