Creating Floral Swags

Learn how to design and create a botanical swag—a bouquet that hangs upside—down on a wall and dries into an elegant floral display. In this hands-on workshop, you'll craft your own swag using fresh, seasonal flowers and other plant material as you learn essential techniques for pruning, drying, and preserving your botanicals for lasting color and shape. Take home a stunning, natural decoration that will bring warmth and beauty into your space.

Materials Information:
Price includes a $100 materials fee for plant materials and hard goods. Please bring a florist knife, wire cutter, scissors, pruners, a camera, and a box or bag to carry home your work. Alternatively, a Floral Tool Kit is available for purchase through the Registration Office. Please email ContinuingEd@nybg.org to inquire.

Instructor:	Takako Matsui Takako Matsui Takako Matsui Takako Matsui is a 2020 graduate of NYBG's Floral Design Certificate Program. As a nature lover, Takako is certified by the Japan Gardening Society as a garden coordinator, offering collaborative styles between retail fresh-cut flowers and garden flowers or wildflowers. She leads a flower project at her local public library to brighten up the community, teaches seasonal floral design classes, and takes part in lectures about edible flowers. Takako has won awards for her dried and pressed floral artworks. She is also a graduate from the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Pharmacy.
