Drawing Alpine Plants in Graphite, Pen and Ink, and Watercolor
Capture the resilience and beauty of alpine plants through the precision of graphite, the boldness of pen and ink, and the subtlety of watercolor washes. In this class, you'll explore the unique forms, textures, and adaptations of high-altitude flora—from cushion plants to wind-swept grasses—while developing your technical skills in botanical illustration.
Each session combines observational drawing from high-resolution specimen images with step-by-step guidance on rendering intricate details like hairy stems, compact growth forms, and delicate flowers. You'll practice using graphite for fine lines and shading, pen and ink for crisp, defined textures, and watercolor washes to add depth and atmosphere to your illustrations. Emphasis will be placed on capturing the essence of alpine plants' survival strategies through accurate, artistic representations. Prerequisite: Botanical Drawing II
