Development of Land Plants

How do plants grow and develop? In this class, you'll study the cellular and molecular aspects that drive the development of land plants. Explore major evolutionary innovations as you analyze the diversity of structures throughout each developmental phase and the mechanisms that control them. Through lecture, discussion, and hands-on experimentation, each session will focus on a specific subject and its developmental stages: germination and emergence; vegetative growth; and reproduction strategies. Examples of plant subjects featured include Ceratopteris richardii (fern), Arabidopsis thaliana (angiosperm) as well as common tomatoes. Prerequisite: Plant Physiology
