Instructor: Califa Kane

Califa Kane
Biography: Califa began her belly dance training in a class taught by Astryd Farah in Eugene, Oregon in 2007, but devoted herself to the dance in earnest in 2014, when she began studying at COCC with legendary local teacher Maya. Maya, a classically trained Egyptian belly dancer, continued teaching into her eighties, at which time she chose Califa to continue the esteemed lineage.

Califa is known for her ability to break down belly dance's mysterious movements into physical phrases accessible to dancers of all experience levels-including those with no experience! With a focus on core strength, serpentine sensuality, and sassy self-confidence, Califa's classes are welcoming, fun, and challenging for dancers of all ages, shapes, and sizes.

Califa considers herself a lifelong student, sharing the physical, cultural, and spiritual nuances of the dance with her classes. Participating in educational and performance opportunities such as the Las Vegas Belly Dance Festival and Jamballah Northwest, as well as taking workshops from top belly dancers worldwide continually enhances and evolves her curriculum.
