Pruning Basics

Learn the essential pruning techniques for woody plants used by NYBG experts. In this course, our plant professionals will guide you through the key principles of pruning woody plants such as small trees and shrubs. Through informative videos and quizzes, you'll gain the know-how and confidence to put these basic methods into practice on your own plants. This course features pre-recorded lectures and pruning demonstrations filmed on NYBG's gorgeous 250 acres.

After completing this course, you'll be able to:

  • Explain the science of pruning and identify the plant's responses to it
  • Choose and maintain the appropriate pruning tools for best practices

Learn at your own pace in an online format. The pre-recorded course videos feature NYBG's plant professionals who will guide you through the material. Videos will include quizzes designed to deepen your understanding of the course content. You'll have access to all videos and quizzes for 60 days after the course start date, allowing you to complete the course at any time within that period.
