Kate Summers (née Brittenham) is an ecological landscape designer based in Albany NY. In 2016, she founded Front Stoop Gardens, LLC, an ecological landscape design and gardening company specializing in native plants. She holds a Certificate in Landscape Design from the New York Botanical Garden and a BA in Environmental Studies from Skidmore College and in 2016 interned with the Native Plant Trust, gaining a deeper understanding of native plants in propagation and design.
From 2017 to 2019, she worked as a Horticulturist at Manitoga, a historic home and garden in Garrison NY, practicing ecological horticulture. In 2023 she co-founded Home Earth Alliance, a non-profit in the Capital Region that seeks to educate, inspire, and empower people to make ecological decisions in their home landscapes. In 2024, Kate and her mother, Carolyn Summers, co-authored a second edition of the latter's book, Designing Gardens with Flora of the American East. She currently lives in Troy NY, where she experiments on her own landscape.
