Join us for this rare opportunity to discover the beauty and philosophy of Ikenobo Ikebana, an elegant floral art form with roots in 15th-century Japan, that tells stories of the ever-changing beauty of life and nature. Ikebana master Professor Joseph Lam—who holds the highest possible Ikenobo ranking (Sokatoku rank 18)—will design an array of arrangements with flowers and branches chosen at the last minute to demonstrate how the language of Ikenobo Ikebana has evolved from classical to modern times.

He will begin by exploring the techniques and philosophies that guided Ikenobo Senno more than 500 years ago as he transformed traditional flower offerings at Buddhist temples, and then walk us through how this style became what we now know as Ikenobo Ikebana. Its graceful styles continue to be treasured far and wide, and its beauty is often echoed in minimalist floral designs today.
