Site Visit: HSNY's Greenhouse and Education Center at Riverbank State Park

Located at the Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park in Harlem, The Hort's Greenhouse and Education Center features a state-of-the-art greenhouse, classroom with cooking facilities, hands-on learning garden, and native plant garden. Here, the Hort creates accessible opportunities to initiate and strengthen people-plant connections through a wide range of free or low cost educational and therapeutic horticulture programs.

During this site visit, you'll get to know the garden and meet various populations. You will then meet and work with participants from YouthWrap, a program for young adults by the Department of Probation in collaboration with The Hort, which provides participants with horticultural pre-vocational training and teaches about wellness and self care.

Instructor:	Hilda Krus, HTR Hilda Krus, HTR Hilda Krus, HTR Hilda Krus is the Director of Horticultural Therapy with the Horticultural Society of New York. She oversees therapeutic horticulture programming at the Hort's sites in over 60 Supportive Housing facilities, Centers for Older Adults, the organization's Education Center at Riverbank State Park, and partnerships with the NYC Department of Probation and the NYC Administration for Children's Services. Hilda trains and supervises Horticultural Therapy students as well as Interns from related fields. Hilda is a registered Horticultural Therapist (HTR) and Social Worker (MSW, University of Essen, Germany). She has served on the board of the American Horticultural Therapy Association (AHTA) and gives presentations at local, national and international HT conferences. Hilda teaches "Therapeutic Horticulture for Mental Health" at the NYBG. Hilda is a life long passionate gardener and her earliest memories take her back to her parents' garden.
