Floral Design Summer Intensive

The Floral Design Certificate Program at NYBG offers the most in-depth training in the region, covering every aspect of this creative art. We'll help you develop your own aesthetic, master the mechanics for any arrangement, and gain practical business skills, so you graduate client-ready.

In just five weeks, you can complete all classroom credits toward the NYBG Certificate, so you can get started on your internship requirement ASAP. Working one-on-one with floral design professionals, you'll create dozens of arrangements in diverse styles for many different occasions. This concentrated program focuses on real-world situations, and includes a trip to New York's flower district. Let this be the summer you jump-start your career in Floral Design!

You have the option to register for the entire Summer Intensive program or sign up for the classes individually, allowing you to continue your Certificate at your own pace. To register for individual class sessions, please click on each of the classes linked below.

ORIENTATION:
An orientation for all Summer Intensive students will be held on the first day of the program, Monday, July 7 at 9 am. This orientation will include a presentation in Ross Hall followed by expert-led tours of the LuEsther T. Mertz Library and The William & Lynda Steere Herbarium, and opportunities to connect with program coordinators.

TUITION AND REFUNDS
$7,713 (Member) / $8,570 (Non-Member)
A $1,200 non-refundable deposit is due at registration.
Tuition includes all flowers, supplies, books, and a floral tookit (florist knife, wire cutter, scissors, pruners).

An optional payment schedule is available if requested. No refunds after June 23.

Instructor:	Thomas Cawley Thomas Cawley Thomas Cawley The Program Coordinator, Tom Cawley, is a certified Master Designer with four decades of diverse experience in retail and high-end event production. He has created lush, large-scale projects for royalty, political figures, and society clients in France, Monte Carlo, Saudi Arabia, the U.K., and the U.S.; and for the past ten years, he has been an inspirational instructor here at NYBG. Nsombi Woodson Nsombi Woodson Nsombi Woodson Nsombi Woodson is the founder of The Woodson Bloomery, an interactive floral art studio which teaches the artistic expression of floral design. In her 20 year career, her floral designs have been featured in the Kips Bay Decorator Show House, Elle Decor Magazine, Southern Bride Magazine, Coveteur, and Architecture Digest. Barbara Mele Barbara Mele Barbara Mele A native New Yorker, Barbara Mele has been a florist for 20+ years. She learned to love nature at a young age from her grandmother, who was a landscape architect and taught at Notre Dame University. Barbara calls her personal design style "Urban Garden," which often showcases garden varieties in sleek urban vases. Her work can be seen at Gatherings Floral Design. Jacqueline Elfe Jacqueline Elfe Jacqueline Elfe Floral designer Jacqueline Elfe founded Stellar Style Events in 2007, with the purpose to design with intent. Whether it's a corporate event or a gala, in New York or beyond, she and her company push beyond the ordinary to capture the energy and vitality of a space-to make it come alive and allow people to emotionally engage in their environment. The secret of Stellar Style Events' success has been about bringing your vision to life with joy, grace and beauty. She's worked with celebrity clients, as well as had our designs appear in It's All About The Dress, as well as featured in New York Weddings, Luxe Magazine, Traditional Home and Brides. Jacqueline is also and educator and mentor at Penn Foster, for Floral Design, Event and Wedding Planning courses. Junko Miura Junko Miura Junko Miura Junko Miura is a second-generation Ikenobo-Seigetsuha Ikebana Master who was granted the exclusive use of the honorary title"Shojun". Since then she has expanded her skills to include fashion and fine art, and has experimented in the creation of new artistic expressions using Ikebana as the foundation. Ikebana is the revered traditional Japanese art of flower arrangement. www.ikebanaflowers-ny.com Valerie Braverman Valerie Braverman Valerie Braverman Valerie Rojas Braverman is a retail & event floral designer whose work evokes the feeling of freshly gathered florals balanced with modern and classical design forms. She is a second-career florist, starting her journey in marketing and advertising, and completed New York Botanical Garden's Floral Design Intensive Certificate Program in 2015. Her Maplewood, New Jersey shop, Brave Floral, has been featured in Domino Magazine and NJ Monthly. Ken Norman Ken Norman Ken Norman Ken Norman, Jr., AIFD, PFCI is a third generation florist. In 2013 he became a member of Professional Floral Communicators International (PFCI). Mr. Norman is an FTD Master Designer. His award winning weddings have been published in Florists' Review. He was inducted intoAmerican Institute of Floral Designers in 2002.
