Course detail: Close Quarter Strategies
Course Description
The C.Q.S. Instructor Course is a three-day training designed to equip law enforcement officers with practical offensive and defensive tactics, along with the ability to teach those techniques within their agency. The course focuses on ground fighting, strikes, and takedowns, with an emphasis on simplicity, effectiveness, and real-world application.
Recognizing that many agencies face staffing and time constraints, this course delivers essential skills in a condensed format that supports retention and immediate use. The C.Q.S. system was developed through collaboration among multiple agencies with a focus on realistic training time, officer confidence, and long-term skill retention. These techniques are currently taught at the Johnson County Regional Police Academy, providing continuity for newer officers and a foundation for continued development.
Participants will also learn instructional strategies and training drills that can be incorporated into in-house training programs. The course emphasizes instructor confidence, practical application, and the ability to break down techniques into manageable components. Techniques are designed to be adaptable and can be integrated into existing use-of-force curricula, while also addressing counter techniques to provide a well-rounded understanding.
