Course detail: Fuel Pump Skimmers: Detection, Prevention, and Response

Course Description:
Fuel pump skimmers are a growing threat to individuals and organizations worldwide. This course will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of fuel pump skimmers, including how they work, how to detect and prevent them, and how to respond to skimming incidents.

Course Competency:
Participants will employ best practices as they investigate any crime from its beginning to its eventual disposition; either as an individual, or part of an investigatoary team. 

Course Objectives: 
  • Students will learn about the different types of fuel pump skimmers, including overlay skimmers, deep insert skimmers, and wireless skimmers. 
  • Participants will learn how skimmers are installed and how they are used to steal payment card information from unsuspecting customers at gas stations.
  • Students will learn how to respond to a skimming incident, including how to collect and preserve evidence, what to get tested, and how to get the data extracted from the devices so it can be used in their cases.
  • Students will have a thorough understanding of fuel pump skimmers and the knowledge and skills needed to investigate, detect, and seek prosecution from this growing threat.
