Course detail: Team Coordinated Subject Control

Course Description: 
Team Coordinated Subject Control provides officers with fundamental strategies and tactics for bringing a suspect under control as a coordinated team. Participants will learn effective communication, positioning, and movement techniques that enhance officer and subject safety. The course emphasizes teamwork, situational awareness, and practical methods officers can use to develop or refine similar training within their own agencies. 


Core Competency: 
Officers will demonstrate the ability to safely and effectively apply team-based tactics to control, restrain, and manage a resistive or aggressive subject through coordinated communication, movement, and use of appropriate control techniques.


Training Objectives: 
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Assess and plan for contact. Conduct a pre-contact evaluation of the environment to identify potential hazards, escape routes, and safety considerations. 
  • Apply team-coordinated tactics. Demonstrate understanding of how individual and team roles integrate during subject control encounters. 
  • Execute control positions and team takedowns. Perform key positions such as mount, side mount, and knee across hip while maintaining communication and control. 
  • Recognize and respond to pre-fight indicators. Identify behavioral and positional cues signaling resistance or escalation from a grounded position. 
  • Utilize anatomical control points effectively. Apply safe and appropriate mechanical compliance using the body's strongest control lines. 
  • Communicate and coordinate as a team. Demonstrate clear communication, movement, and transitions to a controlled handcuffing position. 
  • Integrate control tools appropriately. Evaluate and apply the use of available tools and equipment to maintain stability and safety during team control situations. 


Instructional Method: Lecture, Hands-On, Role Play 


Who should attend: Law Enforcement and Corrections Officers 


Course Requirements: 100% attendance and participation in drills and lecture discussion.

 Notice of Availability of the KLETC Annual Security and Fire Safety Report


 The University of Kansas has determined that the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) main campus in Hutchinson and its regional sites in Dodge City, Hays, and Parsons are separate campuses. This determination was made in consultation with the Department of Education. The report is available online at: https://civilrights.ku.edu/clery.


 The report contains information regarding campus safety and security including topics such as: campus law enforcement authority; crime reporting policies; campus alerts (Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications); fire safety policies and procedures; programs to prevent sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking; the procedures the institution will follow when one of these crimes is reported; and other matters of importance related to security on campus. The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred On-Campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Non-Campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the institution or a recognized student organization; and on Public Property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.

Please dress in workout clothing as the drills will be physical. Please bring the following equipment: pen, notebook, mouthpiece (Optional), outer vest, and duty belt. A water bottle may be needed to insure proper hydration.
