Course detail: Safe Corrections Operations: Restraints, Searches, and Contraband Control

Course Description
This two-day, performance-based course provides law enforcement and corrections professionals with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to safely maintain custody, control, and institutional security.

Through classroom instruction and hands-on training, participants will learn proper restraint application, enhanced restraint techniques, systematic inmate and housing area search procedures, and methods for identifying, documenting, and controlling contraband. Emphasis is placed on officer safety, communication, legal considerations, evidence preservation, and sound decision-making during both routine and high-risk custodial operations.

Participants will apply these concepts through realistic practical exercises that reinforce safe restraint techniques, organized search procedures, contraband detection, and coordinated team operations. Instruction is provided by members of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office Detention Training Unit.
