This course will provide decision-making tools to street-level law enforcement officers for the resolution of armed, violent incidents. The course will use lecture, photographs, videos and case debriefs to study the various types of critical incidents and resolution considerations.
Course Competencies:
Upon completion of this program, students will have a clear understanding of what a critical incident is, the psychological and physical dynamics involved, and what mental processes they can use to formulate rapid decisions to work towards resolution.
Course Objectives:
- Students will learn about the dynamics of firearms and edged weapons and the various threats they pose.
- Students will learn the Seven Steps to successful resolution of critical incidents.
- Students will learn to differentiate decision making regarding barricaded subjects, hostage situations, mobile attackers, and active shooters/attackers.
