Law Enforcement Driver Instructor Training Program

Description 

The Driver Instructor Training Program equips the student with the skills, techniques, operational principles, legal considerations and instructional methodologies to teach a comprehensive driver training program to law enforcement officers. The student will be exposed to a variety of courses designed specifically for the law enforcement driver. These courses will provide fundamental and advanced skills which will enhance the instructor's teaching proficiency. Classroom instruction and practical exercises are used during the training. At the completion of the program, students will have achieved levels of competency that will enable them to successfully design, coordinate, evaluate and facilitate a law enforcement driver training program. 

Prerequisites 
1. Must be actively engaged in or expected to be assigned as a driver training instructor for their organization. 
2. Must be in good physical condition, possess a valid driver's license, and have knowledge of law enforcement driving operations. 
3. Must be a graduate of a general law enforcement instructor training program or provide certification from a commanding officer that requisite skills and experience in instruction are possessed.

Students enrolled in the course will be required to bring a PowerPoint presentation over one of the following topics:

? Vehicle Maintenance 
? Vehicle Dynamics 
? Threshold Braking 
? Steering Techniques 
? Distracted Driving 
? Apexing 
? Pursuits/Legal Aspects 
? Skid Control 
? Vehicle Design 
? Traction Control 
? Technology/Law Enforcement Challenges with Driving 

The PowerPoint presentation needs to be a minimum of 10 minutes with no more than 1 minute of video. The student will present this topic to the group and given feedback.

Bulletin

Officers attending the course will be required to bring a Department Police vehicle that will be driven under stressful conditions. Officers are recommended to dress in layers as the learning environment is both outside and in a classroom. Meals are not provided on Monday, Tuesday and Friday of the week training. Meals will be provided on Wednesday and Thursday to promote optimal training time on the driving course.

Cancellation Policy

A refund less a $100.00 cancellation fee will be assessed for all cancellations made in writing prior to 10 days before the start of the event. After that time, no refunds will be made.
