Course detail: Trauma Informed Law Enforcement Response

Course Description
Trauma-informed law enforcement response training aims to equip law enforcement with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to better respond to trauma survivors and provide techniques that law enforcement can use to support victims and reduce re-traumatization.
 
Course Objectives:
  • Identify trauma victims and traumatic events.
  • Identify the potential impact of trauma on survivors, their mental health, and their recovery.
  • Define trauma-informed care in law enforcement practices.
  • Describe the impact of implicit bias on law enforcement officers' interactions with individuals affected by trauma.
  • Discuss how trauma affects the interview and investigative process.
  • Demonstrate techniques that law enforcement can use to obtain and document evidence without retraumatizing survivors.
  • Apply skills and techniques for interacting with traumatized individuals.
  • Explore resources available to individuals impacted by trauma.
