This course will focus on setting up and operating an efficient water shuttle system using available apparatus. Water shuttle operations are used to supply water to emergency scenes when direct and relay pumping are not practical. This course will involve: tenders delivering water to a simulated emergency scene, traveling to the filling site, reloading with water, and returning to the emergency scene to dump again. A water shuttle operation relies on constant movement of tender apparatus between emergency scene and water supply source to keep a constant flow of water. This course is vary labor- and equipment-intensive and is designed to be a mutual aid drill. A minimum of two pumpers, three tenders, several portable pumps and people to operate them are required.
Students must have a valid driver license and be sanctioned to drive and operate the apparatus on public roadways by the authority having jurisdiction.Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to participate in University of Kansas educational offerings.
