Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute

Fire Instructor

The Instructor training program provides a mechanism for fire service personnel to gain training and national certification as Fire Service Instructors at two levels (1 & 2). Training and certification is based on the National Fire Protection Association 1041 Standard on Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications. This program also provides periodic special training events for professional development/continuing education for fire service instructors.

The Institute is proud of our "On-line Instructor I" program. This course is a blended course requiring part of the course to be completed via the internet. Part two of the program is a "face-to-face" seminar (approximately 16 hours) in which information from the on-line portion is reinforced and participants make practice presentations to other course participants. Seminars (part 2) are offered throughout the state in many locations.

Training and certification qualifies instructors to teach select programs within their home fire department for credit through the Fire & Rescue Training Institute programs. Instructor certification also forms the basic qualifications for instructor to apply for Associate Instructor status. This status of instructor is used to teach courses for the Institute in a role similar to a part-time instructor. Application to and approval from the Institute is required for this status. Visit this link for more information about the Instructor Qualifications Program.
