Special Operations Training

The Special Operations Training program area includes a diverse variety of training and credentialing, covering many technical rescue disciplines, typically falling within the scope of NFPA 1006 Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications, and includes Hazardous Materials Technician, Chapter 7 of NFPA 1072 Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualification.

Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue is a Two-day (16 hours) course designed for fire fighters and other emergency responders to teach them the proper procedures for extricating accident victims from vehicles.

Vehicle Rescue Refresher is a one-day (8 hours) course designed to refresh the trained technical rescuer over NFPA 1006, Chapter 8 Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue job performance requirements.

Confined Space Rescue AOT is a three-day (24 hours) course designed to meet NFPA 1006, 2021 Edition, Chapters 7.1, 7.2, and 7.3, covering confined space rescue awareness, operations, and technician levels; in addition to OSHA standard 1910.146 Subpart (k) Rescue & Emergency Services.

Introduction to Rope Rescue Operations is designed to meet the knowledge-based elements of NFPA 1006, 2021 Edition, Chapters 5.1 and 5.2. This course requires approximately 12 hours to complete and includes online quizzes and must be completed before attending Rope Rescue Operations.


July 1, 2024 to July 1, 2025, Self-paced Online Training
The Kansas Flood and Water Rescue course is for rescuers who may be involved in a flood or surface water rescue. This two-day (16) course will cover individual and team requirements to perform safe water rescues.

Rope Rescue Operations is a four-day (32 hours) course designed to meet NFPA 1006, 2021 Edition, Chapters 5.1 and 5.2, covering rope rescue awareness and operations levels.

Rope Rescue Technician is a five-day (40 hour) certification course is designed to meet NFPA 1006, 2021 Edition, Chapters 5.3 Rope Rescue Technician level.


June 16-21, 2025, Crisis City Training Facility
Trench Rescue Operations is a three-day (24 hours) course designed to meet NFPA 1006, 2021 Edition, Chapters 5.1, 12.1 and 12.2, covering rope rescue awareness, trench rescue awareness, and trench rescue operations levels.

Trench Rescue Operations is a one-day (8 hours) course designed to refresh the trained technical rescuer over NFPA 1006 Trench Rescue job performance requirements.

Trench Rescue Operations is a four-day (32-hour) course designed to meet NFPA 1006, 2021 Edition, Chapter 12.3, covering the trench rescue technician level. This class covers the basics of trench rescue for intersecting trenches, trenches to a depth of twenty feet or less, installing supplemental shoring, utilizing spot shoring techniques, stabilizing and lifting a load to free entrapped victims, and coordinating the use of heavy equipment during an incident.
