Course detail: Fire Service Instructor 2 - Online Web-Based Course - Part 1

ATTENTION: ONLY active Kansas Firefighters are eligible to take KFRTI courses; if you are not an active Kansas Firefighter, DO NOT enroll in this class. Contact the Institute at kufire@ku.edu or call our toll free phone number (866-804-8841) to request special permission to take this class. Enrollments are monitored daily and unauthorized (non-Kansas firefighters) will be removed from the course and their registration fee refunded.


This online course is Part 1 of a self-paced, blended learning program that consists of six online lessons plus an online exam. Part 2 of the training is a 2-day face-to-face seminar. All students must register separately for the Part 2. This training program is designed to meet the requirements of the 2019 NFPA 1041 Standard for Fire Service Instructor Level 1 and is a college level, academically oriented course. This course will provide participants with the basic knowledge and skills to effectively develop lesson plans for their organization. Students DO NOT need to purchase an IFSTA 9th ed. textbook. A $40 enrollment fee provides students with IFSTA copyrighted material that's part of the online portion of the training. Effective immediately the Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute will not invoice individuals. Payment should be made at the time of registration via credit card. Note: This course DOES NOT have regular scheduled times. Students may start and complete their online training at any time.
