PREREQUISITE FOR THIS TEST: The candidate must have successfully completed the Introduction to Technical Rescue certification test prior to attempting this test.
WRITTEN TEST: There are two (2) written tests with 50 questions each. One test covers Level 1 and the other covers Level 2.
SKILLS TEST: There are five (5) skills stations covering Levels 1 and 2.
PROJECT: There is a take-home project covering the preplanning of a confined space, which must be completed and submitted within 90 days.
LOCAL VERIFICATION FORM: There is a Local Verification Form that must be signed by the candidate's Fire Chief or Training Division Chief and submitted. This form is available in the Confined Space Rescue Technician Levels 1 & 2 Certification Guide, available on the KFRTI website.
STANDARD: The certification test is based upon the NFPA 1006, Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications, 2013 edition, Chapter 7, Confined Space Rescue.
READING REFERENCE TEXT: The written tests are referenced to George J. Browne and Gus S. Crist, Technical Rescuer, Confined Space, Levels I and II, Delmar. FACIAL HAIR POLICY: All certification test candidates must be clean shaved in the area of the seal of the mask in accordance with the KFRTI Facial Hair Policy.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: The required personal equipment for each candidate is listed in the Confined Space Rescue Technician Levels 1 & 2 Certification Guide, available on the KFRTI website.
FEES: The fee for this certification test is $85.00 for Kansas fire fighters and $170.00 for non-Kansas fire fighters.
There is an additional $17.50 fee, made payable to the ProBoard, for the ProBoard certificate.
