Course: The Gilded Age and American Art (OSH-GILDAGEART)
The Gilded Age, the period in American history from the late 1870s to the late 1890s, was a time of rapid industrialization, economic growth, and massive immigration, but also of political corruption and extreme economic inequality. The term Gilded Age comes from the title of Mark Twain's 1873 novel The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today.
In this interactive session, we will explore a wide variety of art that captures this period of American art history, including portraits, landscape and genre paintings by some of America's most famous artists as well as various art movements of the time such as realism and impressionism.
