Course: Encyclopedia Virginia: Past, Present, and Future (OSH-ENCYC)

This seminar will explore the creation, evolution, and future trajectory of Encyclopedia Virginia (EV), a comprehensive online resource dedicated to the history, culture, and people of Virginia. This seminar will explore how EV has developed from its inception to its current status as a valuable tool for researchers, educators, and the general public. The session will cover: The Past: An exploration of the origins of the Encyclopedia Virginia project at Virginia Humanities, its founding goals, and the challenges it faced in becoming a trusted online resource. Learn how EV's early editorial decisions and collaborations shaped its foundation. The Present: A look at the current state of the project, including the expansive range of content it now offers, its commitment to providing accurate, diverse, and accessible historical narratives, and the evolving role of digital humanities in preserving Virginia's history.
