Course: Unlocking the Past: Exploring Boatwright's Primary Source Databases (OSH-UNLKPAST)
In addition to the rare books and archival materials available in Boatwright Library collections, patrons have access to a large number of databases that contain historical primary sources. This course will introduce participants to the world of historical primary sources available through Boatwright Library. Because these databases contain thousands of items, it's easy to overlook what might be available to explore, including original letters, diaries, photographs, government documents, old maps, newspapers, and more.
Whether you're tracing your family tree, diving into local history, or uncovering the stories behind pivotal events, you'll learn how to access and these historical primary sources. With tips on navigating specialized databases, you'll gain the confidence to explore a wealth of materials, from colonial America to 20th-century social movements.
Perfect for history buffs, genealogists, or anyone with a passion for uncovering the stories that shaped our world. Although it would be helpful to have taken the Bounty of Boatwright or Beyond the Bounty Osher courses before this class, no prior research experience is needed: just an eagerness to step into history!
