Course Detail: PER660 - Ceramics: Soda-Fired Pottery

A solution of baking soda and water is introduced into a natural gas-powered kiln at peak temperature. The sodium interacts with the clay and glazes on the pots and creates a unique glazed/flashed surface.
Students will need to supply the following: 1-gallon bucket, towel, apron, and plastic bags.

Instructor Seth Green is an Associate Professor of Ceramics in the Department of Art and Design at Purdue Fort Wayne. He received a MFA degree in Ceramics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2009 and a BA degree in Art from Southern Utah University in 2006. He enjoys teaching ceramics, is active in his studio practice, and receives national recognition for his ceramic vessels.
