Designed specifically for healthcare professionals, this beginner-level course provides an introduction to Burmese language, culture, and communication practices commonly encountered in healthcare settings. Participants will learn practical phrases and conversational skills while gaining insight into cultural traditions, values, and perspectives that may influence patient interactions.

Through interactive activities, guided conversations, and real-world healthcare scenarios, students will develop the confidence to communicate more effectively with Burmese-speaking patients and their families.

This course is intended for healthcare professionals and healthcare support staff seeking to enhance communication and improve patient experiences within the Burmese community.

Instructor Theingi Tin, a native speaker from Burma/Myanmar, holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from Indiana University, a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Yangon, Myanmar (formerly Rangoon University), and an Associate's degree in Medical Assisting and Nursing from Ivy Tech Community College. She is the recipient of the Indiana Council for Continuing Education's 2016 Course of the Year Award for her acclaimed course, Burmese for the Health Care Professional. Drawing on her extensive educational background and firsthand cultural experience, Theingi is passionate about helping healthcare professionals build effective communication skills and cultural understanding when serving Burmese patients.
