Discover how to design anything and publish anywhere with Canva Pro.Launched in 2013, Canva is an online design and publishing platform with a mission to empower anyone to design anything and publish anywhere. In this course, students will master Canva Pro through applied projects that build design skills for personal, business, and educational use. Students will create a variety of digital media, including personal documents, social media content, infographics, marketing and branding materials, event flyers, signage, presentations, and more.
Week 1: Getting Started with CanvaPro - Personal Projects
Objectives:
- Learn Canva basics: navigation, templates, design principles
- Explore color, fonts, and layout fundamentals
Projects:
- Create a personal vision board
- Design and export a digital planner
- Design a social media post or invite with photos
Week 2: CanvaPro for Business - Branding & Marketing
Objectives:
- Learn to create professional marketing materials
- Understand brand kits (logos, colors, fonts)
- Explore tools for collaboration and resizing designs
Projects:
- Create a business logo and brand kit
- Design a social media content series
- Design a flyer or poster for a community event or business promotion
Week 3: Canva for Education - Learning & Teaching Tools
Objectives:
- Learn how to create educational visuals
- Use charts, infographics, and slides effectively
- Explore Canva's presentation and collaboration features
Projects:
- Create an infographic explaining a concept or topic
- Design a presentation or lesson slide deck
- Make a classroom quiz, worksheet, or questionnaire
Week 4: Bringing It All Together - Showcase & Portfolio
Objectives:
- Combine all skills from previous weeks
- Build a mini portfolio of designs
- Learn how to share, download, and print projects
Projects:
- Create a multi-purpose Canva portfolio
- Design a final showcase project
- Group critique & discussion
Please Note: Students will need to purchase a Canva Pro membership subscription prior to the first course meeting if they do not already have one. This membership is necessary to participate in the course activities. The fee for membership is $15/month presently.
About the Instructor
Marjae Cashdollar is a Designer and Illustrator with a passion for helping others succeed through shared knowledge. She holds an Associate of Science in Commercial Art and Bachelor of Fine Arts / Photography from Indiana University School of Visual & Performing Arts. With over 25 years of creative experience, she has extensive knowledge in the fields of graphic design, branding, product design, photography, illustration, large format printing, event signage, lettering, painting and more.
