Course detail: Trench Rescue Technician - NFPA 2021
Trench Rescue Operations is a four-day (32-hour) course designed to meet NFPA 1006, 2021 Edition, Chapter 12.3, covering the trench rescue technician level. This class covers the basics of trench rescue for intersecting trenches, trenches to a depth of twenty feet or less, installing supplemental shoring, utilizing spot shoring techniques, stabilizing and lifting a load to free entrapped victims, and coordinating the use of heavy equipment during an incident.
The course format includes lectures and hands-on application of skills on planned structures or natural environments involving strenuous physical activity and the ability of the student to do moderate to heavy lifting.

The student is responsible for furnishing personal protective equipment, which includes an OSHA or ANSI-approved helmet with a chin strap (fire helmets are okay), clean leather work gloves (firefighting gloves are not appropriate), durable work clothes (no tank tops or shorts), and hard-toed boots. Fire department turnout gear is not recommended except during inclement weather.
