Course: Vinyl Record Lovers SIG Open Meeting (OSH-VINYLSIG)

Please note we have a new instructor for this course: Chris Waagen. This Osher Vinyl Record Lover's Special Interest Group Meeting is open to any Osher Members who register. You don't have to be a member of our group. Our members will discuss issues with vintage and modern equipment and spin and discuss cuts from jazz, classical, folk, and rock music on our Osher turntable and stereo system.

Chris Waagen

Biography: Christopher Waagen has a PhD in communications from the Pennsylvania State University, emphasizing analysis and modeling of interpersonal communication. He also earned an MA in communications from Penn State with an emphasis on rhetoric and persuasion, and a BA from the State University of New York at Albany in rhetoric and speech communication. His initial pre-med studies at Union College were interrupted by service in the U.S. Army in the military police. At the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Dr. Waagen taught courses in public speaking, interpersonal communications, political persuasion and research methodology, as well as courses for managers in the MAS and continuing education programs. Chris entered the corporate world as a marketing communications specialist and video producer, eventually working as a Federal Systems media relations manager and college program administrator. For five years prior to coming to Richmond, he was a volunteer docent at a hands-on, interactive program in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Lifelong interests also include art, photography, audio engineering and music. My main purpose for studying audio equipment design and performance has been to enhance the experience of recorded music. The quality of specific recordings depends on the equipment used, and so does the playback experience. So I've learned as much as I could about speaker design and have been building them for more than 50 years, also searching out the most effective associated gear for a given budget.
