Course: New Thoughts on the Problem of Obesity (OSH-OBES)

A PEW research study showed that a large percentage of Americans believe that obesity is caused by lack of will power. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, obesity is a disease, and heredity is a contributing factor in a majority of cases. New thoughts and medications in the treatment of obesity will be discussed as well as case presentations.

Peter Goodman

Biography: Dr. Goodman is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a BA, with Distinction, in English. He graduated from medical school at MCV, followed by an internship at Sinai Hospital, residency at MCV, and Fellowship in Gastroenterology at Georgetown University Hospital. He is former Chief of Medicine at Richmond Memorial Hospital.As an independent gastroenterologist in solo practice in Richmond for over 40 years, he was the happiest doctor in the medical office building. Helping patients solve difficult problems provided so much gratification that he did not retire until his early 70's.
