Course: Tools for Leading Intergenerational Teams (NC-LDGINTGENTEAMS)

Tools for Leading Intergenerational Teams is a 3-hour interactive workshop designed to help leaders strengthen communication, collaboration, and trust across generational differences in the workplace.

Today's workplaces often include four or even five generations working side by side, each shaped by different formative experiences, communication norms, expectations around work, attitudes toward authority, and approaches to feedback, technology, and boundaries. These differences can create misunderstanding, frustration, and conflict, particularly when leaders rely on assumptions rather than curiosity, clarity, and adaptive communication.

This workshop helps participants move beyond generational stereotypes and develop more practical, emotionally intelligent approaches to leading across age, experience, personality, and perspective. Participants explore broad generational tendencies while also recognizing that generation is only one influence on workplace behavior. Life experience, personality, communication style, stress response, and individual motivation also shape how people show up at work.

A distinctive component of the workshop is the integration of the Enneagram as a tool for leadership self-awareness. By pairing generational understanding with insight into personality patterns, participants gain a deeper understanding of how people communicate, respond to conflict, interpret feedback, and build trust. This combination allows leaders to move beyond simple explanations such as "younger workers are too sensitive" or "older workers resist change" and instead examine the underlying assumptions, values, and stress responses that often drive workplace tension.

Through guided discussion, reflection, small-group exercises, and situational scenarios, participants learn practical tools for improving communication, navigating conflict, repairing misunderstandings, and building healthier intergenerational team cultures.
