The School of Professional & Continuing Studies offers classes and programs related to preparing high school students for college and career choices, including SAT and ACT test preparation.
Our classes and programs also address preparing yourself for a new career, whether you are graduating from high school, college or graduate school, or you are preparing for an updated career in a new field.
S.T.E.P.S. to Success with The College Edge
Our S.T.E.P.S. (Strategies & Techniques for Enhancing Performance & Skills) to Success program introduces important skills, techniques and strategies to maximize success on test day, and provides advice for entry-level college and career planning. Also includes The College Edge, a college-application preparation program for rising high school seniors.
In today's era of high stakes testing, memorizing for tests has become the norm. This class will guide students in developing lifelong skills that will serve them through high school, college and beyond. Learn how to begin to think critically, process information far more effectively in class, take effective notes, manage papers and projects effectively and efficiently, and develop other key skills.

What do you want to do when you finish high school? Identifying a career path is the first step in deciding what occupations and college majors might be right for you. Learn how your interests fit into career families, and then identify what possible occupations are related. This interactive workshop includes an online assessment to be completed prior to the workshop date, and the results will be handed out and interpreted during the workshop.

Choosing the right college can feel overwhelming when deciding between options and trying to understand the requirements needed to get in. However, it actually can be a fun and exciting experience if you have the tools and knowledge needed to help you make a decision. Join us in this interactive workshop where you will learn how to identify colleges that offer majors that align with your career interests.

This program for rising high school seniors helps college-bound students develop a plan to prepare their college applications. As many students struggle to begin collecting the components that make up the application packet, we'll get them started with their college applications and essays. Students will prepare an activity list, which can be turned into a résumé if they wish. In addition, they will organize all of their materials and information in an individualized reference binder.

Join us for an objective look into the details of the College Savings Plans available to Virginia residents. Planning for children or grandchildren to go to college has become a daunting task as tuitions increase at a mind-boggling rate and there are numerous options available to save for education funding. We have designed a workshop to help you make an educated decision on which plan to utilize in your quest to help your loved one afford his or her education.

Our uniquely designed PSAT Prep course presents important techniques and tips for taking the test. We will cover what to expect in the Math and English sections, while practicing questions and reviewing the answer explanations. This is a great way to decrease text anxiety and gain valuable skills in a 'no pressure' class! Course is designed for students taking the test in October, who have not taken the PSAT before.
Every week on Sunday, starting on 10/06/19 and ending on 10/13/19
Weekend Workshops resume this fall, meeting on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons. Tuition includes books, materials, healthy snacks/fruit/refreshments daily. Class sessions concentrate on the three major testing areas: Mathematics, Critical Reading, and Writing, with an introduction to the Essay. (Course designed for students 15 and older. Current or previous Algebra II is recommended.)
