Knowledge is Power. Be informed, be independent.
Who Should Attend?
Issues of inequality due to joblessness and low income can affect every aspect of one's life and create disparity and the inability to become self-sufficient.
These sessions are designed for both families and organizations dealing with these clients, and will provide essential information to participants to be used as a road map for finding assistance.
This portion of the class provides new or prospective residents an explanation about local issues that can affect their ability to obtain and retain affordable, decent, and safe housing. Participants will learn about fair housing regulations, types of housing programs (including Public Housing), Housing Choice Vouchers, Section 42 and other programs currently offered in the Fort Wayne market.
The session also includes how to search for housing, deposits, inspections, general lease terms, and the termination process.
This portion of the class focuses on homelessness issues, including using the 211 system, identifying shelter requirements, and other alternatives.
Participants will also learn basic information about home repairs and general maintenance and housekeeping chores that are expected by most landlords.
For persons considering home ownership in the future, a brief overview of FWHA's Home Ownership Series will be presented.
Partner organizations include the Apartment Association of Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne Area Council on Homelessness, United Way of Allen County, Habitat for Humanity, and Brightpoint.
