Course Detail: BUS711 - Lean Office

Purdue University Fort Wayne leverages the resources of Purdue University by teaming up with their MEP program to offer this training.

The Mission:
To advance economic prosperity, health, and quality of life in Indiana and beyond. Purdue Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) provides high value, affordable solutions to help businesses increase profitability. As advocates for Indiana's thousands of manufacturers, our staff leverages resources in both the public and private sectors to help identify areas of improvement, streamline processes, and ultimately increase competitiveness.

This full-day workshop combines classroom-style learning with an interactive "live" simulation, during which class participants become managers and workers within a fictitious company. Workshop participants learn lean definitions and techniques and explore the application of lean techniques in a simulated office. Participants ultimately transform the simulated office in "stages."

At the end of the class, the office has been redesigned to improve customer and employee satisfaction and increase the speed of the order-to-cash cycle. This class is appropriate for employees at all levels who are interested in improving efficiency and effectiveness in an office environment.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Recognize the characteristics and benefits of a lean office vs. a traditional office environment
  • Categorize value added vs. non-value added activities and identify ways to eliminate non-value-added activities
  • Eliminate or manage the "8 wastes" by applying various lean concepts
  • Apply the principles of lean to an office environment and experience,first-hand, the results lean has on quality, cost, delivery and service targets
