This is an entry basic level course in regards to obtaining and interpreting 12 lead and associated EKGs. It will include a review of single lead rhythm intrepretation as well as acute coronary syndromes pathogenesis. Participants will not only be able to obtain and intrepret 12-lead EKGs for signs of STEMI but will undestand the coorelation between 12-lead changes, STEMI location, STEMI progression and coronary involvement.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) builds on the foundation of Basic Life Support (BLS), emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR. The instruction and simulated cases in this advanced course are designed to help enhance their skills in the recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute arrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes. HeartCode ACLS through RQI is a blended learning delivery method for the AHA's ACLS Course. HeartCode 2025 ACLS is a self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program that uses adaptive learning technology to allow learners to acquire and demonstrate ACLS skills using a personalized learning path that adapts in real time to a learner's performance and gives learners more control to complete the course at their own pace. . Because of it's adaptive approach learners will usually take need 8.5-11 hours to finish this portion.  Providers may take the course at any time. Providers first complete the online portion of HeartCode ACLS (RQI Part 1) and then when done, contact IHCC to schedule a hands-on skills session with a BLS skills check off (RQI Part 2) which will take approximately 45 minutes.

HeartCode BLS uses a personalized adaptive algorithm that sets students on the most efficient path to BLS mastery. Students follow a continuously adapting learning path that is personalized by their own inputs: their performance and their self- reported confidence level related to each probe. The student has a choice of completing a pre-hospital or in-hospital contextualized track. Certified Clinical Medical Assistants are sought-after professionals who work in medical clinics, hospitals and various other medical settings. Certified Clinical Medical Assistants work under the supervision of a licensed physician and/or nurse practitioner and perform various administrative and clinical functions. This post-secondary program is designed for both traditional and non-traditional students.  It is on-line, self-paced within time-frame parameters, and can be completed while working, taking other college classes or while enrolled in the last few months of high school. Students may enroll at any time of the year. The program includes a 249-hour interactive online course, followed by an 80-hour clinical internship at an area medical clinic.   The online program is a digital learning resource which allows learners to confidently build key CCMA skills. It is comprised of several online courses covering key foundational learning pieces as well as vital competency-based and professional skills. Students will cover Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, both Clinical and Administrative Skills as well as various Soft Skills to assure proper patient care and communication. This course is designed to prepare the student to provide emergency medical care at an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) level as outlined by the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards. This course provides the student with basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS response and to assist higher level personnel at the scene and during transport. Students who complete this course successfully are eligible to apply for National Registry Emergency Medical Responder certification examinations. The non-credit EMT program provides complete training in best practices of basic level emergency medical response. Emergency Medical Technicians provide out of hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. EMTs have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. Emergency Medical Technicians are a critical link between the scene of an emergency and the health care system.   This program utilizes the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards for the Emergency Medical Technician from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  Completion of this program enables graduates to sit for National Registry of EMTs EMT Certification Exams.

This program introduces the modality of mammography and describes the roles and responsibilities of a mammographer. Radiographic imaging of the breast will be discussed. Defensive Tactics is a refresher/update for peace officers and jailers who have already received basic Defensive Tactics certification.  This course will provide the student with an update on methods to protect themselves and others by providing training on avoiding and minimizing initial attacks along with training on the effective physical control of violent and/or non-compliant subjects.  We will review safe mechanisms for arrest procedures including handcuff/restraint application and the searching of subjects. A brief review of use of force principles and case law will also be reviewed.

This precision driving course focuses on different techniques for vehicle control, cognition, multitasking skills, application of legal principals, and use of force.  This course is designed to build up best practices in driving skills before adding elements such as emergency driving, pursuit driving, and scenarios.  Participants will show proficiency through practical tests and scenarios. This course will meet the requirements for the ILEA Reserve Academy, Module F precision driving and will also meet the qualified immunity standard for new officers prior to attending an academy class.  The course is also a great refresher for certified officers currently working in Iowa.

This course is designed to prepare the licensed practical nurse to perform procedures related to the expanded scope of intravenous therapy, using a peripheral intravenous catheter, a midline catheter and a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC line), in a licensed hospital, a licensed skilled nursing facility and a certified end-stage renal dialysis unit as identified in 655 IAC Chapter 6.  Major emphasis is placed on the specialized skills needed to provide intravenous therapy related to the expanded scope of the licensed practical nurse. Students will be required to complete clinical at their place of employment which must be a hospital, a  skilled nursing facility or a end-stage renal dialysis unit. Prerequisites:  Current unrestricted Iowa license to practice as a licensed practical nurse Documentation of 1,040 hours of practice as a licensed practical nurse Employment in a licensed hospital, a licensed skilled nursing facility or a certified end-stage renal dialysis unit whose policies allow the licensed practical nurse to perform procedures related to the expanded scope of intravenous therapy.*

The purpose of this course is to prepare individuals to safely administer non-parenteral medications in agencies/facilities licensed by DIA.  The emphasis is on safe administration and students are provided with classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences to assist in achieving the course competencies. A minimum of 10 hours of clinical must be completed at the student's place of employment where the student must be evaluated by an RN there assigned to directly supervise actual medication administration to satisfy the clinical there. Following completion of clinical, participants will have 2 chances to pass the state med aide examination for certification.     Course Pre-requisites*: In order to take this course, the applicant must be drug free and working in an agency/facility licensed by DIA.  Other requirements include:   If employed in a certified nursing facility All applicants must be employed for at least six months by the facility sponsor Must be eligible on the Iowa Nurse Aide Registry Provide recommendation from the administrator in the facility in which they are employed   If employed in a residential or related type of agency licensed by DIA      Provide recommendation from the administrator in the facility in which they are employed   *The new rules apply only to individuals employed in residential care facilities licensed for more than 15 beds.  Residential care facilities licensed for 15 or fewer beds may continue to use medication managers to administer nonparenteral medications.  The requirement that CMAs working in nursing facilities or skilled nursing facilities must first be a certified nursing assistant remains unchanged as this is a federal requirement.

This examination is for individuals who have met all prerequisites to challenge the medication aide state exam.  Individuals with equivalent med aide certification from another state and nursing students or graduates may be eligible to challenge. Contact IHCC for eligibility and prerequisite requirements. IHCC offers the Med AIde state written examination on a one-on-one basis by appointment only. Tests are administered in the Indian Hills Ttesting Center located in Trustee Hall.

This course is designed to prepare individuals to safely administer non-parenteral medications in a fifteen bed or less residential facility, child care facility, or a supervised living apartment or in an assisted living facility.  Emphasis is placed on the safe administration of medications and observation of obvious medication reactions. This program includes all lab/clinical time so students successful in the program leave ready to function in a medication manager capacity.

The Paramedic program prepares individuals to use critical thinking skills to provide advanced medical treatment and transportation under medical oversight for patients with illness or injury-related disease. The Paramedic provides both emergent and non-emergent advanced medical care for patients, performing skills in a variety of possible settings including pre-hospital, emergency departments, critical care units and cardiac catheter labs. This course includes didactic, lab/simulation, clinical, field and a capstone experience to accomplish its goals. This program is nationally accredited and follows the most current National EMS Education Standards.

Pharmacy Technicians are sought-after professionals who work in pharmacies located in hospitals, drug stores, retail businesses and grocery stores. Pharmacy technicians work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and perform many pharmacy-related functions. This post-secondary program is designed for both traditional and non-traditional students.  It is on-line, self-paced within time-frame parameters, and can be completed while working, taking other college classes or while enrolled in the last few months of high school. Students may enroll at any time of the year. The program includes a 148-hour interactive online course facilitated and monitored by a pharmacist instructor, followed by a 120-hour clinical internship at an area retail or hospital based pharmacy.   The online course (Pharmaseer) is a digital learning resource which allows learners to confidently build key technician skills. It includes an optional special and individualized math component (Pharmaseer Math) which provides students with skills to master pharmaceutical calculations.  This certificate program also includes a certification exam study guide and practice tests. Completion of this program enables graduates to sit for the ExCPT exam from the National Healthcare Association (NHA), awarding CPhT certification.

This non-credit program provides skill development in the performance of a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and standard precautions. It includes vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood cultures, and specimen collection on adults, children, and infants. Emphasis on infection prevention, patient identification, specimen labeling, quality assurance, specimen handling, processing, accessioning, professionalism, ethics, and medical terminology. It includes classroom, lab and a clinical component. The class and lab will provide the student with instruction in specimen collection with actual hands-on practice and competencies. Students will complete a clinical internship following successful completion of the classroom and lab portion of the program. This credential will allow an individual to work as a Phlebotomy Technician but is also excellent for other healthcare professionals wanting to develop/authenticate phlebotomy skills and receive an additional credential in order to enhance their current practice. Students will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcare Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam. A CPT study guide, sample test and cost for the first attempt at the exam are included in the course cost.

This course is one of four needed for the Computed Tomography (CT) Certificate Program.  This certificate provides a core program of computed tomography courses for registered radiologic technologists that builds on previous educational experiences and affords the student the opportunity to acquire attitudes, knowledge and skills necessary to perform in the role of a CT technologist.  This program consists of a core of four on-line didactic courses (RT Sect Anat / CT Procedures / CT Pt Care & Safety / CT Prin & Instr).  These courses may be taken in any order. In addition to the didactic courses, students must also complete specified numbers of skills at their place of employment to earn the certificate. Students who are not currently employed need to contact IHCC about other options to complete clinical. Students successfully completing this program will receive a certificate of completion from IHCC. They are then, after submitting transcripts, eligible to sit for the ARRT Computed Topography (CT) Board Exam.

The Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is a course developed by the Emergency Nurses Association to present a firm foundation in trauma nursing and to provide nurses with core or basic trauma cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills that are associated with the delivery of professional nursing care to the trauma patient. After completing this course, participants will be able to properly assess and implement evidence-based interventions to improve outcomes for patients.   This is a partially hybrid course as some learning modules must be completed on-line before class. Verification of successful course completion is based on passing the Trauma Nursing Process (TNP) psychomotor skills station at the end of the class and passing the written exam on-line after class. Verification from ENA is valid for four years. Please note registration closes 2.5 weeks before class to allow for mailing of books to participants and completion of on-line modules. Prerequisites: Must be a registered nurse. Other professions may audit only. Participants should have 6 months emergency experience before taking the class.

This course is an introduction to and investigation of a career choice in Occupational Therapy. A foundational overview of the history, philosophy, ethics, and role of occupational therapy in the health care environment is provided. The roles and functions of the occupational therapist and occupational therapy assistant in traditional and emerging practice areas, as well as the role of the AOTA will be explored. Models of care and the essentials of success in the OTA program will be discussed. Students will complete required HIPPA, Infection Control and Mandatory Reporting for child/adult training for Health Care Providers.  Once the student has registered and paid online the instructor will contact you on how to proceed with the class.
